What is Burglary? Burglary is defined as the unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft. The use of force to gain entry is not required to classify an offense as a burglary. Burglary is categorized into three sub classifications: forcible entry, unlawful entry where no force is used, and attempted forcible entry. If you break into a home, that's a burglary. If you break into a vehicle, mobile home, storage facility, garage, etc, that's burglary. It doesn't matter if someone is home or not. The
crime is
committed when the person is "unlawfully" in a place he is not
authorized to be in. Understand that the law is based on it's written meaning. A District Attorney could place you in jail for a very long time based on the meaning and wording of the law, not on your intent. State laws differ from California to New York from Chicago to Houston, Texas, etc. How
is a burglary normally committed? What
is the difference between burglary
and robbery? Most burglars are in and out of your home in 8 minutes! Homes that are actively protected with home security systems have a much greater tendency to discourage burglary. Whether you have a 'pricey' full-blown company installation, or choose 'affordable' do it yourself home security systems, your odds of successful protection against burglars increase greatly.
